Dragon Talon

Dragon Talon is a fighting style that can be learned from Uzoth in the Third Sea.

Dragon Talon serves as a direct upgrade from Dragon Breath, with attacks that resemble Dragon's abilities—hence the name. It focuses on close-range, high-damage, area-filled combat, utilizing burning effects and distorting the opponent’s view with violent screen shakes.

However, in return, it is generally slower than most other fighting styles. Dragon Talon is mostly used for Raids and Dungeons, or Sea Events due to its high damage and AoE moves. Disabling screenshake also greatly aids the user, due to the high effect distortion on its moves.

Upgrading

Dragon Talon's skillsets can be upgraded talking to Uzoth after obtaining the Blue Belt from the Dojo Trainer, prerequisite of having at least 500 Mastery on Dragon Talon. In order to obtain Blaze Embers to upgrade Dragon Talon's skills, The player must talk to the Dragon Hunter and begin a quest, which, once completed, will reward them with Blaze Embers.

  • Upgrading [Z] Talon Lighter requires Blaze Ember 5 Blaze Embers, once upgraded, it allows the user to apply an execution/finisher move when they use it on an enemy with low health.
  • Upgrading [X] Ember Annihilation requires Blaze Ember 7 Blaze Embers, which allows the user to mount with the flame dragon projectile if they hold the move.
  • Upgrading [C] Infernal Vortex requires Blaze Ember 10 Blaze Embers, allows the user to stun nearby enemies during the startup of the move.
  • Upgrading all the moves require a total of Blaze Ember 22 Blaze Embers.

The user lights their hand on fire and dashes towards the cursor. If the user collides with an enemy, the user will grab them and force-light their flames that turn from orange to blue inside of the enemy, before ending the attack with a kick, knocking them away. The move can be held to increase range.

With its upgraded version; and if the enemy's health is low enough to be killed with Talon Lighter, the player will perform a finisher with a flurry of fire punches at the enemy, punching overheated holes into them, before killing them with a roundhouse kick, severing their parts and scorching it.

  • The finisher also bypasses any defensive passive (even the respective passives of the Pain and Ghost fruits), meaning that if the enemy's HP is low enough, they will die regardless.

This move possesses two distinct variations:
  • If tapped:
    • The user releases a dragon-like fire projectile towards their cursor that, upon collision with an enemy, will drag them along as it damages them. If this projectile collides with a surface or reaches its maximum distance, it will explode, dealing great damage. The explosion leaves flames on the ground that deal damage over time.
      • Can be maneuvered using the cursor after release.
  • If held with the upgrade:
    • The user jumps on the dragon-like fire projectile and moves it in the direction of the mouse. If released or held for a short time, the user will immediately jump off the dragon and it will fly towards the target.

The user leaps high into the sky for a second, before descending down with immense force, dealing devastating area wide damage. The explosion deals heavy knockback to anyone within its range. Additionally, the move turns the screen orange during the attack. When upgraded, it will stun enemies that are near the range at the start of the move.

Cons
General
  • Hard to obtain.

  • The fourth M1 pushes the user forwards, creating difficulties for grinding.
  • Unlike Sharkman Karate, upgrades cannot be turned off.
[Z] Talon Lighter
  • Single target.
  • Small hitbox making it hard to hit.
  • Incompatible with Buddha due to its large size and hitbox, so the player has to aim down.
  • Long finishers make kill stealing easy.
  • No I-frames.
  • High knockback.
  • Low damage compared to other Fighting Style [Z] attacks.
[X] Ember Annihilation
  • Quite slow, making it very weak at mid-range.
  • Upgraded flight doesn't last very long.
[C] Infernal Vortex
  • Long startup time.
  • The distortion effect can sometimes be annoying to users.

Tips & Tricks

  • If timed correctly, Dragon Talon can use two moves at once. By using [Z] Talon Lighter and holding [X] Ember Annihilation, the user can ride the dragon while burning the opponent with [Z] Talon Lighter (only works with the upgraded version). This is a glitch, so it might not work for some people and might get patched in a future update.
  • There is a technique known as the Dragon Talon 360, where the player can use [X] Ember Annihilation and then change their character's facing direction to loop the projectile around and drag the opponent back towards them. To effectively do this, the player can aim [X] Ember Annihilation and, as it goes up, turn their camera to the ground they are on to execute the Dragon Talon 360.
    • The trick can be followed up with the [C] Infernal Vortex as a combo finisher.
  • [X] Ember Annihilation's stun is based on the Dragon's travel time. (more travel time = lower stun)
    • This makes it so if the player uses the skill on the ground (which makes it so it doesn't travel) the enemy cannot dash or use skills for roughly three seconds.
      • This makes it so that long windup but massive AoE skills like Lightning [V] Thunderball Destruction or Flame [V] Flame Destroyer easier to hit
  • [Z] Talon Lighter has a bug with large avatars, where it can launch players extremely high.

Trivia

  • Dragon Talon is famously used by Uzoth (Player), a content creator/admin of Blox Fruits, and is considered to be his favourite fighting style.
  • Dragon Talon is the fighting style with the highest M1 damage in the game.
  • Dragon Talon's M1 sound effects originated from Dragon Breath's fire-based M1s, because its a predecessor to this fighting style.
  • Dragon Talon’s [Z] Talon Lighter has a finisher variant. Shadow's [C] Nightmare Leech also includes a finisher variant, though the visual difference is subtle, making it less noticeable during normal gameplay.
  • The finisher variant of [Z] Talon Lighter is a guaranteed kill—bypassing all forms of resurrection (like Ghost's and Pain's Resurrection passives, but also Friendly PvP's revive), defense (like Shark V3 and Cyborg V3), healing (like Phoenix's [X] Regeneration Flames and Angel V3), and instinct-tricking.
    • Additionally, the finisher variant of [Z] Talon Lighter can chain through Cyborg's awakened energy passives.
  • Dragon Talon's M1s release a mark that looks like a dragon's footprint.
  • [C] Infernal Vortex resembles Transformed Eastern Dragon's [X] Infernal Pincer, as the user holds the enemy in place, jumps up, then slams down with devastating force.
  • Contrary to popular belief, the head seen during [Z] Talon Lighter, is a faint image of T-Rex's head, not West Dragon.
    • This, combined with the fact that [X] Ember Annihilation uses East Dragon's model, and [C] Infernal Vortex resembling East Dragon's [X] Infernal Pincer, Dragon Talon might have finished development prior to West Dragon.
  • When the user uses [X] Ember Annihilation at a thin wall like the Ice Castle's wall, they will have a slight chance of phasing through the wall.
  • Dragon Talon is the first V2 Fighting Style to be able to be upgraded, followed by Sharkman Karate.
  • Dragon Talon has a bug where if the user uses [C] Infernal Vortex while they are swimming, they will immediately lose all their health (even while using Shark V2 or above). This also occasionally happens outside of water.
  • When Instinct tricking [Z] Talon Lighter, depending on when the user tricks it, they will either receive its traditional knockback, or simply fall out as they would when tricking most moves.
