Description in the shop

Shadow is a Mythical Natural-type Blox Fruit that costs $ 2,900,000 or R$ 2,425 from the Blox Fruit Dealer.

Shadow allows the user to control shadows and cast Umbra-based attacks with life leech properties.

Shadow is mainly used in PvP due to its high-damage stun attacks. A fully charged [V] Corvus Torment can easily drain the victims health, while the auto-aim on [X] Shade Nest and the I-frames on [Z] Somber Rebellion provide additional combo opportunities. However, it has limited mobility, and it has Instinct issues.

Shadow can be used for grinding due to the AoE on [V] Corvus Torment and the damage on [F] Umbrage, but it lacks multi-target attacks, as [Z] Somber Rebellion and [C] Nightmare Leech are single-target moves. It is not recommended for the First Sea and early Second Sea due to its high mastery requirements and lack of Elemental Immunity.

Nonetheless, Shadow is a fun and generally good fruit to use. If used in the right hands, Bounty hunting will be easy and you can strongly combo with its strong burst damage, good lifesteal, and the ability to secure kills whenever opponents slip up or run out of Instinct dodges.

Meter

Meter

Visuals

Visuals

The user will always have an Umbra Meter bar on their screen. The meter fills up by dealing damage with Shadow abilities to enemies, and it fills up automatically at night.

The Umbra Meter can only be drained by using [V] Corvus Torment.

The user will also get a ghastly shadow aura surrounding themselves that will be bigger and darker, depending on the amount of Umbra Meter they have.
(Note: The Shadow aura does not deal damage to anyone, make any noise, and is purely cosmetic.)

Somber Assault
The user turns into a small dark orb of shadow, then dashes towards their cursor. Upon contact with an opponent, the user will turn into a swarm of crows and damage the enemy, then launch themselves upward, leaving the enemy on the ground. The user will receive i-frames during the duration of the move if they land it. This move is similar to Godhuman's Z (Soaring Beast) move.

Bat Nest
The user shoots a swarm of crows towards the cursor. Upon surface contact, the swarm will explode, dealing damage and sending a few small crows which will then fly to a nearby enemy and damage them. The crows have slight auto-aim, and will attempt to fly towards the target if close enough. (Note: Multiple crows can attack the same target).

Rush Leech
Nightmare Leech Finisher
The user lunges forward. If the user makes contact with an enemy, the user will regain 20% of their max health and deal good damage to the enemy, knocking them back. This move is similar to Sanguine Art's [Z] (Bloodbane Drain) but the range is shorter and high end-lag. This move has a finisher variant, which makes the victim instantly explode on contact (health must be maximum half the damage of the move to activate). This move can also distort the users screen slightly.

Max Shadow
Dynamax Shadow
The user inflates their body into a giant dark sphere, after which, they will explode, draining the entirety of their Umbra Meter and forming an "umbral" cloud. The explosion will do a burst of damage and leave behind a swarm of crows, which will deal passive damage to any enemies inside the cloud. The enemies' vision will also get slightly distorted if they get hit by the explosion. The size of the black hole and explosion is based on how high the user's Umbra Meter is. The remains of the explosion don't really stun. Instead, it pulls the enemies back inside the remains of the move. However, it is possible to escape the explosion's remains using certain teleportation moves. This move darkens enemies screen similar to that of Darks Awakened X, C and V.

Shadow Form
The user transforms into a swarm of crows, giving the user the ability to fly at a medium pace. Flying close to enemies will project crows at them, dealing damage. After 10 seconds, the user will return to normal. This move projects 50 crows if fully held.

Overview

Pros
General
  • High combo potential.
  • High damage on all moves.
  • Good mobility.
  • Great for grinding, once [V] is unlocked.
  • Not too difficult to obtain compared to other Mythical fruits.
  • Pairs perfectly with Yama and Dragon Talon.
  • Pairs very well with the Cyborg race.
  • Moves can drain lots of Instinct if dodged.
[Z] Somber Rebellion
  • Can be used to escape combos (if timed correctly), as it flings the user into the air.
  • Decent speed.
  • Great for combo starting.
[X] Shade Nest
  • The bats have auto-aim and will fly towards the target if they're not too far away.
  • Good range.
  • Can stun enemies.
  • Little to no endlag.
[C] Nightmare Leech
  • Heals the user by 20% of their max health when PvP, which can be extremely useful when the player is low on health.
  • Kills Pain and Ghost users before they revive.
  • Breaks Instinct no matter what.
  • Can be used almost exactly like Sanguine Arts [Z] move, but with more endlag.
[V] Corvus Torment
  • Very high damage.
  • Relatively low cooldown, especially considering its strength.
  • Huge hitbox, AoE, and stun especially when used with full Umbra Meter.
  • Great for grinding, as most Enemies will not escape the explosion.
  • Drains Instinct if dodged.
  • Great combo potential if the victim is trapped inside.
[F] Umbrage
  • Great for grinding and pairs really well with Cyborg V3 (Energy Core).
    • This can be used to hold players inside of the [V].
  • Makes the user's hitbox extremely small, making it useful for evasion in many situations.

Cons
General
  • High mastery requirements.
  • Passive quite inconvenient during the day.
  • Bad for some Sea Events.
  • Relatively lower trading value than other Mythical fruits, or even some Legendary fruits, due to low demand.
  • Moves are hard to hit, all needing at least a stun to hit in PvP.
[Z] Somber Rebellion
  • Single target.
  • Small hitbox.
  • Sends the user upwards, which sometimes can be annoying for starting/extending a combo.
[X] Shade Nest
  • Relatively slow speed.
  • Small hitbox.
  • Unlikely to break Instinct due to it needing precise aim.
[C] Nightmare Leech
  • Single target.
  • Low range, along with end-lag if the user misses.
  • While it 'can' kill Pain and Ghost users, the move has short range and significant endlag.
  • Longer than average end-lag.
  • No I-frames, meaning the user can be damaged by an enemy if using the move on something already.
[V] Corvus Torment
  • Most players can escape the explosion's radius, making it almost impossible to deal full damage in PvP without a proper stun/holder.
  • Doesn't break Instinct.
  • Quite small AoE if Umbra Meter isn't full.
[F] Umbrage
  • Can only be held for 10 seconds, making it less reliable for mobility.
  • Slow flight speed.
  • Not viable for PvP.

Trivia

  • Shadow is the only fruit that allows the user to utilize the life drain mechanic (just like Ghoul's life leech) by using [C] Nightmare Leech.
  • Shadow is the only fruit with the Umbra Meter as it was designed only for itself.
    • It is also one of the only fruits that have wings on their physical fruit model, along with Eagle, Spirit and Phoenix.
  • "Umbra" in Latin means "shade" and/or "shadow", and "Corvus" in Latin refers to a "raven" or a "crow", both being types of birds. This ties into how many of the fruit's abilities have to do with crows/ravens flying at the enemy.
  • Shadow's [Z], [X], [C] moves are quite similar to Godhuman's [Z], [X] (Tap Variant) and [C], having nearly identical range, cooldowns, and energy usage.
  • Shadow is the rarest and most expensive fruit obtainable from a Fruit Box.
  • This fruit has low value in trading due to its overall neglect. However, Shadow’s low trading value is due to low demand, not low power.
  • Shadow does not construct the user's body out of shadows, but rather, uses them in the form of attacks, hence why Shadow isn't Elemental, but rather a Natural fruit.
  • Despite its physical appearance resembling a bat, the attacks use crows.
  • Shadow’s [C] is the only move with a finisher that makes the target burst on contact. Shadow and Dragon Talon are also the only abilities with finisher‑style variants in the game.
  • Shadows [V] move is the only [V] move of a Mythical fruit that can be dodged no matter what. However, its damage and stun makes it extremely deadly if hit.
  • Shadow is confirmed to be getting a rework in future updates.
